SPLIT had a fantastic 2006 at the key in Kings Cross London, and invited such luminaries as the UR boys, SURBURBAN KNIGHT and DJ 3000 who rocked at The Keys biggest and busiest night of 2006, we were once again joined by Detroit master KENNY LARKIN and uk acid house pioneer A GUY CALLED GERALD, SPLIT tried and tested favourite JAMES RUSKIN, whose set at SPLIT in June 2006 is widely cknowledged as one of the best anyone heard anywhere last year, ex UR DJ and producer ROLANDO popped down and also rocked the house alongside Dutch master STEVE RACHMAD then for our 3rd birthday in october we had, the now globally established JORIS VOORN who made his London debut with us in 2005 plus the London debut of SIMS and SURGEONS ‘FREQUENCY 7’ project and ending in December with a North South Club collaboration with Leeds Club SUPERCONDUCTOR showcasing Detroit producer and 3rd time visitor to SPLIT, ROBERT HOOD, along side Glasgow’s finest, VINCE WATSON.

So, we're back, June 22nd is our first night for 2007 and with a change of venue we bring you another exclusive for London and the UK;

DJ TRAXX [Melvin Oliphant III]

A musician like no other and not content to be labelled as merely a DJ, a producer, or even a DJ/Producer, TRAXX is a lover of music—one with a passion so intense that it overcomes genre divides to weave an altogether original, musical fabric for both the avid clubber and the home listener. From an early age, MELVIN OLIPHANT surrounded himself with a wide variety of sounds. he lived the evolution of house music into something much more than just an underground phenomenon, and for this reason, he has a deep understanding of the history of the sound, and a clear picture of its future. As a self-described “artist of sound,” TRAXX morphs musical compositions into distinctive, highly emotional interpretations. From eclectic and avant-garde tunes to old school jack tracks and lounge grooves, TRAXX hears it all without discrimination, pretension or elitism.

JAMES T. COTTON [TADD MULLINIX]

Already with the alias Dabrye, JTC took on the acid-house nom de guerre JAMES T. COTTON. With its playful use of female Chinese vocals, the first Cotton single Mind Your Manners became a favorite of DJs like TRAXX, Deecoy, and Carlos Souffront. Not one to be pigeonholed, COTTON’s work became darker with his heavy remix of Charles Manier's Bang Bang Lover and the monolithic EBM monster "I Seek" from Spectral Sound's State of the Union EP. The second proper Cotton EP Buck! is like a shot of caffeine, owing much to the sounds of classic techno and Belgian New Beat, and the Press Your Body EP paved the way for his dark and hypnotic debut full-length, The Dancing Box. COTTON is also one half of Saturn V along with TRAXX, creating pieces that echo the heyday of Chicago jack, as well as a member of dark acid duo TNT with Todd Osborn.

NICHOLAS D’MARC CANTU

In 2005, COTTON teamed up with D’MARC CANTU to create 2 AM/FM, a new extension of the acid house built by the pioneers of the 1980s and 90s. Their first release, Pt. 1, features raw drum boxes and cavernous synths in line with the sound of Rephlex and Trax Records. Unapologetically avoiding contemporary, flashy production techniques, this 5-track EP received support from DJ Koze, Laurent Garnier, and The Hacker among others. Following a reinterpretation of "T-Y-O-C Painkillers" on Cotton's Oochie Coo single, 2 AM/FM geared up for Pt. 2, which includes the 13-minute "Acid Planes".

THE ESSEX RASCALS are back, this time with SIMS, MAC and ANDERSON digging deep into their collections to drop all manner of party jams and rarities, expect everything from hands in the air soul and disco gems to raw running man hip hop'

The OUTLET DJ CREW will go head to head with the ESSEX RASCALS with the usual spiked cocktail of techno, house, disco and whatever else they can get away with spinning…

ALEX DOWNEY [MORPH / COVERT.UK.COM]

ALEX DOWNEY aka MORPH returns to SPLIT deliver his consummate selection of treasures culled from Brighton’s highly respected COVERT RECORDS, where ALEX has manned the tills for the last ten years. A long-standing SPLIT supporter, his boundless knowledge and enthusiasm for all things techno are equalled only by his precision-engineered DJ skills.

The HUB CLUB [Formally the SUB CLUB in Goulston Road was practically designed for SPLIT. The venue is East London’s friendliest sweat box with a newly fitted turbosound rig to boost the sound for SPLIT and drinks at student[ish] prices to suit all, along with a 7am finish which we know you all like..
