John Peel R.I.P

just heard that John Peel has died from a heart attack whilst on a working holiday in Peru.

I know we all feel like we knew John Peel - some of us here have met him a few times over the years - and his memory will continue to inspire us all.

I was just coming on to post the exact same thing.
It's a real blow to the music scene and the public airwaves. R.I.P.

Yeah shit......my dad told me about it when i got home tonight (ive been sitting in a shed in the woods for the day) Came as a shock......hes one of those people you dont expect to die, like sean connery

were you refering to the anglia news story with that being played? My dad worked on that.....apparently it was his favourite song?

teenage kicks: not referring to the anglia news - radio 1 played it after every news bulletin yesterday afternoon as it was his favourite song. hell, they even played it (and Captain Beefheart) on radio norfolk last night as part of a tribute.

was there ever a man as universally adored and respected as John Peel? the response to his death has been overwhelming and we all feel a personal loss now that he's gone.

Undertones - Teenage Kicks. The story goes the first time he heard this track it was on a demo cassette and he was listening to it whilst driving along the motorway. He was so overcome by the music that he had to pull off the road and park so he could have a good cry.

This man felt his music.

its like losing an old uncle or something. i'm not often too bothered by the death of celebrities but this really hit me, especially since the old boy say ed was 'rather good'.

That's smooth George. Nice job that you got some quality airtime; I can't think of many other broadcasters that would give people such as yourselves a chance in a market orientated by popular music.
