Transformers are real.

This is so awesome, I am just shocked it isn't more publicised.

This guy worked with Mini and managed to build this over a number of years. It is so neat and isn't just amazingly big and strong, it is also has incredible AI.
I always believed a robot would be the most natural complement to the automobile - a full biped, intelligent version having great strength, dexterity and a library of mechanical knowledge. I imagined a robot with the ability to repair vehicles, direct traffic and watch over high-accident crossroads to preempt accidents.
When I read this quote, I thought yea, okay, can't really imagine it actually helping, but then I saw the movie clips he has put on his website.
This robot is pretty much everything you would imagine from fiction, it has car tools in it's fingers to take off wheels, it has a heads up display like in terminator and it can even stop cars whilst they are in full motion. (Check this movie of this, it looks incredible --> http://www.r50rd.co.uk/research/interna ... p_test.mpg )

Anyway, there are a bunch of other movies on the site, this thing just really blew me away.

this is indeed cool but.... i think this is a hoax. it has all the hallmarks of a viral marketing campaign (which would explain the lack of publicity). the bit where the robot stops a landrover looks like CGI to me. also i would doubt very much that a robot that huge could be powered by a mini-copper engine. think about the brake horse power that would be required to lift its weight and walk, let alone to stop a land rover at 20mph...

also they never show it transforming which is odd as you'd think that would be the first thing they would shout about!

where did the other 2 wheels go? you can only see 2 on his shoulders. and where did all the shadows go? if you look closely at the video you'll see that there are some that are missing or come from conflicting light sources, and thats always a dead giveaway with fake videos/photography.

i dunno, just my 2p!

there is an interesting forum discussion on it HERE.

Shame they aren't real.
They could be put to real good use sorting out Iraq.

For some reason, I just seem to stumble across this sort of material accidentally.
It's a curse really, but depending on your tastes it could be called luck.
