WHAT THEY SAY

‘Really liking Mazzula’s Owd Skool and Cynthia’s for mentalness. Really cool” – Shelley Parker
‘Liking ‘Stop That’ and ‘Unpleasant Beahaviour’ – Surgeon
‘These all sound phat as. Can’t wait to properly pump these out!’ – Jerome Hill

Ardisson’s ‘Stop That’ has featured on both Bracket’s and Warlock & NoyeahNo’s SUB FM shows.

MIXMAG
FEBRAUARY 09

‘As Bassline House and the return of double time beats to dubstep make warping bass and 140bpm as standard part of the club music palette once again, so warehouse electro bass of the kind championed by Data-Trace starts to feel more current than it has done in some years. Once again, they explore various territories between breakdance and rave, with Cynthia Stern reworking Octagon Man’s machine-gun snare techniques and Mazzula doing dark side hardcore rave revitalism with significantly more funk than any of the various recent efforts have managed. Once again Shrewsbury’s Teutonic Kaboom stands out for her ability to find the common factors between dubstep, booty bass, electro and even gabba, and to create a track in ‘Rich Creamery Butter’ which manages to combine all the above with a galumphing grove of it’s own’.

WHAT WE SAY

SMASHBACK – HEAVENS TO MURGATROYD
Originally due to appear on his forthcoming album ‘City Parks’, Data-Trace has somehow ended up with the honour of releasing this beast of a tune. Unmistakable in his production, ‘Heavens..’ has featured as the opening track of Smashback’s live sets over the last year. It’s dirty as hell and we love it.

ARDISSON–STOP THAT
His last appearance on Data-Trace with his remix of Smashback’s ‘Ublerbruch’ was always going to be hard to beat, but here he returns in devastating form fluctuating between fractured, steppy breakbeats and punchy 4/4. Add to that some serious sub action and it’s easy to why this is so popular. Great to see him back.

TEUTONIC KABOOM –RICH CREAMERY BUTTER
Whenever aired, polite enquiries about said track turn into incessant nagging within a matter of seconds and it’s easy to see why. A killer vocal sample only tells half the story, married to some dangerously jagged breakstep styled drums and some real murky bassline business. Just wish it was longer.

CYNTHIA STERN-UNPLEASANT BEHAVIOUR

Heading more down an electro route, our man from Sweden maintains his usual off-centre leanings including some mad snare action and glitched up silliness over the top. Add to that some nasty synth and heavy kick bass action and no wonder this went down a storm on recent visits to Manchester, Nottingham and Edinburgh.

MAZZULA –OWD SKOOL
Does exactly what it says on the tin. More straight up electro business from Mr Mazzula, this is a real peak-time number with an awesome drop harking back to years-gone by. Sick track. Watch out for some stuff from this chap.

LIEF RYAN–WATCH OUT FOR THE NANOPODS
What better way to finish off the EP than with some techno action a la Lief Ryan? We welcome back Lief for techno as only he can do. Slamming breakbeats from the onset are engulfed by trademark bass before transfoming into 4/4 stylings halfway through.
