First photos from Titan!

This afternoon, the European Space Agency's probe Huygen's landed successfully on Saturn's moon of Titan. I've been waiting for this for years!
Its been travelling for 7 years and over a BILLION miles to get there, woah.

I love this picture so much, its amazing, a moon a billion miles away, and there is a fucking river delta and shorelines! Apparently the liquid in the oceans is liquid methane, as the temperature is far too low for liquid water. I want Titan methane SEA MONSTERS!This is one of the first raw images returned by the ESA Huygens probe during its successful descent. It was taken from an altitude of 16.2 kilometres with a resolution of approximately 40 metres per pixel. It apparently shows short, stubby drainage channels leading to a shoreline.

It shows what could be the landing site, with shorelines and boundaries between raised ground and flooded plains.
This one is brilliant, even though I don't quite get the perspective on it, I don't know if those lumps are massive, or fairly small - either way, ICE BLOCKS!. Is that the coastline in the background as well? Apparently the roundness of the rocks and ice blocks supports the river delta theory.This raw image was returned by the ESA Huygens DISR camera after the probe descended through the atmosphere of Titan. It shows the surface of Titan with ice blocks strewn around. The size and distance of the blocks will be determined when the image is properly processed.
