theres a group of us going this year for the first time, we are all heavily into dubstep and thought this would be a good weekend as there skream, ntype and all the rest of them..
but i dont really know the other artist, and who they are, what other genre of music is played at BLOC?
cheers..
The music
congratulation on taking in the BLOC plunge, you won't be disappointed...
basically, BLOC represents the best cutting edge, underground electronic / rave music - that is why dubstep is represented so heavily
you can hear music by most of the acts playing by clicking in their names on the lineup to be taken to their myspace page.
The bassbloc has the most closely related types of music in it - jungle/drum&bass/dub/ragga etc. check out 'the bug' (on ninja tune and kode 9's label hyperdub) and scorn who is often credited as a precursor of the modern dubstep sound. you'll like amon tobin too - really dark heavy and instrumental.
there are also showcases from the legenday detroit bass label Underground resistance and Rephlex records from Cornwall with lots of 'braindance' which people used to call 'intelligent dance music' or IDM.
The Tecbloc is focussed more on electro and techno. a bit more energy than the dubstep - but don't worry, when we say techno - we don't mean 2 unlimited. it's not too cheesy or cheap sounding - there is a lot of quality live dance music in here. Also legendary DJs like juan atikins ("is widely credited as the originator of techno Music") and dave clark who is technically very impressive.
the smashbloc represents the full spectrum of these kinds of music and is open 24 hours a day. you will like skull disco cos that's a dubstep label.
hope this answers your question and wassn't too boring to read...
basically - it all goes BOOSH or BANG. how about that?
