I have split up the various weeks into multiple posts because there is so much going on!
THE WAREHOUSE PROJECT
October 6th – December 31st 2006
www.thewarehouseproject.com
Manchester UK
“For twelve weeks this city is ours”
LICENSE GRANTED
The Warehouse Project launches this week with three totally unique events. This is the beginning of something special.
Yes this really is the beginning of an incredible and unique event that is poised to become part of Manchester’s long running musical folklore. Mancunian music legend and Saturday’s ‘Welcome To The Warehouse’ sold out party co-host, Mike Pickering is similarly enthused:
“Manchester has hosted many iconic and legendary events throughout the history of popular culture. In the 60s, the beat clubs hosted The Beatles, The Hollies. At the twisted wheel Hendrix played guitar for the Isley Brothers, and some of the great soul stars of all time performed.
In the 70s The Free Trade Hall was the venue for many iconic gigs including Bob Dylan's seminal 'Electric Show', recorded for prosperity and ridiculously re-titled 'Live at the Albert Hall'. The Sex Pistols gig at the lesser Free Trade Hall was punk's starting gun and I saw The Talking Heads, The Ramones, The Clash, The Jam and many more learn their trade at the old rundown Electric Circus in Collyhurst.
The Factory at PSV Club in Hulme was the place where post-punk flourished, with seminal gigs by the likes of Joy Divison, Human League, Cabaret Voltaire, Gang of Four, as well as Iggy Pop, and the New York Dolls from the states.
Then the 90s were dominated by the Hacienda. Bands appeared here as a showcase to world domination. The Smiths, Culture Club, Teardrop Explodes, KLF, Erasure, Orange Juice, New Order, Stone Roses and The Happy Mondays, Scores more played here as a launch pad to fame...
And now in 2006, at the site of the former Boddingtons Brewery, the same spirit is being put in to three months of events which we hope can have a major impact on the cities rich musical history... Bands, DJs, artists - all for the future. Its the most exciting project to hit the city in years. Support it. Be part of it. Take your place in history.”

Thursday 5th October
The Preview Party
PUBLIC ENEMY [ LIVE ]
+ support Rich Reason & Special guests
Tickets: £12.50 + BF [ Book Now <http://www.ticketline.co.uk/event_detai ... ntId=43461> ]
22.30 – 02:00
[Public enemy on stage at 12.30am]
As you all know by now, the first to headline the stage in the Racking Hall will be the most iconic band of the 80s, hip-hop pioneers Public Enemy. There are still a few tickets remaining for this preview party, and we will be keeping a few back for the door. These will go early though, so if you know you definitely want one, please book in advance. For a moment, Public Enemy had people hoping [or fearing, depending on their perspective ] that hip-hop could spark a revolution in US culture, rousing the anger of dispossessed black people by talking politics over powerful, disquieting grooves. [In case you haven't noticed, that didn't happen; gangsta rap proved to be more commercial, and the free market lived to fight another day.] Public Enemy wasn't the first political rap group [Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" was released years before the group formed. ] But P.E. didn't just describe conditions, they identified both their idols [ Nation Of Millions opens with a sample of Malcolm X ] and their enemies. P.E. mastermind Chuck D. is, among other things, a shrewd self-promoter; everything about the group was calculated to make an immediate impact, from the group's name and logo [ a black man in a cross-hair sight ] to the volume of the records [ they were mastered a few decibels higher than normal, to stand out from everything else on the radio, ] to the important stuff: the lyrics and the music.

Now this is when the warehouse starts to kick...
Friday 6th October sees a really massive line-up roll into town. John Digweed is one of the biggest jocks in the world, and his trademark tech house has been the soundtrack to literally thousands upon thousands of parties around the world. John has long since cemented his name in the pages of dance music history. His list of achievements is groundbreaking to say the least. Highlights of which would be the first proper dj mix compilation ("Renaissance", done with Sasha), being the first British dj to hold a residency at what was then the world's most well known club in NYC (Twilo, also with Sasha). John Digweed is a DJ's DJ.
Joining him on the line-up as The Warehouse Project begins is another globe-trotter, Danny Howells, who has like John, plied dance music crowds around the world. Whether its playing back to back with Tenaglia in NYC, or rocking in front of 25000 people on a beach,Danny's infectious personality and individual style is what really puts him a cut above the rest. You can really sense his connection with the crowd wherever he plays.
Warming up in the main room, and then playing alongside Pokerflat main man Steve Bug in the box, is one of Ibiza’s hottest DJs. Tania Vulcano has been at the centre of the minimal revolution, and is queen of legendary Ibizian nightspot DC10. This is her Manchester debut, and with the season in Ibiza drawing to a close she is one of the reasons people from around the UK are flocking to the warehouse tonight.

I am SERIOUSLY struggling to think of a reason why I CAN'T go to this! I know it's in Manchester but how the hell can I live with myself knowing I missed such an amazing lineup!? Anyone agree?
