New prefuse 73 album anticipation

Post by james »

Aaron Mandel reports:
Reports are trickling out all over the web regarding Prefuse 73's upcoming album, Surrounded By Silence, but the dozens of squibs all contain the same information (and some of the same typos), suggesting that one could trace every story back to a single secretive source. Sound like anyone we know?

That's okay, though, because Warp Records' bulletin on the subject has more than enough info to pique our interest. Surrounded By Silence is coming out in the U.S. on March 22 (a day earlier in the UK) and features guest appearances by-- and don't start reading this list if you have anywhere you need to be soon-- Aesop Rock, Beans, The Books, Tyondai Braxton, Broadcast, Cafe Tacuba, Camu Tao, Claudia & Alejandra Deheza (of On!Air!Library!), DJ Nobody, El-P, Ghostface, GZA, Kazu Makino (of Blonde Redhead), Masta Killa, Pedro, and the RZA. We're plumb out of funny ways to say "UK-only single", but there'll be one of those, too: "HideYaFace", a track featuring El-P and Ghostface trading rhymes, will act as a teaser for the album on February 21, backed with an El-P mix of the song.

In a post on the Warp site, Scott Herren also alluded to the potential for an Extinguished-style companion CD collecting the material that didn't fit onto Silence. "Although I mixed almost as many instrumentals as collaborations, I want people to hear what I've always wanted to hear on top of my music. I had so many that there is about an hour's worth left off just to get this to it's point of release...so there will be some sort of follow up to this album. The collaborations left to come include-- Tunde from TV On The Radio, Madlib, Diplo, Four Tet, Mia Doi Todd, among others.."

Meanwhile, no word has yet come down on the many other projects Herren is perpetually juggling, though we hope the Books' appearance on the album doesn't mean the rumored "Prefuse remixes the Books" EP has been scratched.

Full Story
That's a pretty insane amount of featurings. My only concern being that it may detract slightly from the entire-album production feeling that you get on something like One Word Extinguisher. Sounds very neat though and UK-only single s'all good.

I dunno, my favorite Prefuse tracks have always been the ones with MCs on, and that is a fucking good roster. At least Linkin bloody Park aren't on it.
