@ bloc - earplugs?
@ bloc - earplugs?
not for me (I'm no jessy) but the missus gets some grief from her ears sometimes and uses ear plugs in clubs. normally there are spare pairs floating around for the staff that I can grab for her, will this be the case do you think?

Re: @ bloc - earplugs?
I get bad tinnitus, so I tend to wear earplugs out.
DONT use the ones staff wear - they just turn everything into a muffled "WHOOMF" sound, you lose all top and bottom into a sludge as they're just made of foam. Get her some of these quicksmart for under a tenner http://www.er20.co.uk/ - you can reuse them loads of times and they just take the dangerous frequencies out. They delivered in 2 days for me last year. It's basically like Bloc, but a little bit quieter.
You can still feel the bass in your chest, mind.

Re: @ bloc - earplugs?
You can find good earplugs in musicians shops, I bought mine in a shop where they sell guitars and drum stuff (especially drummers need good ear plugs).
Ogriff is right with his comment: the cheap foam stuff is good for blocking out loud noise, but that's about it. Audio quality degrades a lot.
Strict sound control laws and a good audio system and skilled technicians might keep the sound under damaging levels at Bloc, but protection is always a good idea. Especially for three days on end.

Sorry - was on lunch! They look a good compromise - would you mind getting feedback from your MRS and posting her thoughts here after the fest?snix wrote:http://www.dv247.com/pa-systems-and-liv ... set--67013

bless her I should have taken better care of her before, remember once in the end in london about 5 years ago she had taken the filters out of a couple of fags and put them in her ears......

Re: @ bloc - earplugs?
Those Alpine ones are excellent. I used to use custom moulded Elacin ones but got fed up spending hundreds every time I lost them.
The Alpine's aren't quite as good but for the price you can't beat them.

I use these since I lost my moulded ones...

You should be able to get them in any chemist, maybe not Boots tho'.

I think so, been using them for around 6 months now... -27db cut. I am more happy to use them when I play gig too.ogriff wrote:I sleep in those at festivals, they really ok for sound?DROKKR wrote:I use these since I lost my moulded ones...

Basic earplugs are available from the production office.
Re: @ bloc - earplugs?
I use those too, at first they really do change the sound a bit but once you get used to them they're grand. I don't really notice the difference after a while and my ears are much happier with the reduced volume. Plus you can get 3 pairs for a fiver in the chemist, handy! Boots have their own brand and they are rubbish!DROKKR wrote:I use these since I lost my moulded ones...

Would be willing to give those slightly more expensive ones a try though, curious as to how much clearer the sound is. I wouldn't use the Quies while mixing, it's hard enough to hear what your doing while beatmatching in a club as it is!

Re: @ bloc - earplugs?
The rigs were so quiet last year, you won't need any.
Re: @ bloc - earplugs?
ionkontrol you are just wrong basically.
All the sets i hear last year, bar none, were plenty loud enough. Not too loud that they hurt you but very clear, very detailed and with very deep bass.
Loads of people seem to whinge about volumes last year but im not sure which sets they are referring to as it always sounded top to me.
